Chavuma DEBS Office Shut Down Over Teacher Recruitment Controversy

The Chavuma District Education Board Secretariat (DEBS) office was closed today after angry youths and parents stormed the premises, demanding an explanation regarding the exclusion of over half of the local residents in the recent teacher recruitment process.

The protesters claimed that many of the names submitted to Chavuma were not from the district, arguing that the recruitment exercise was flawed.

They have called for the immediate removal of the DEBS from the district.

The government stated that only names already in the database were considered for the recruitment process. However, Chavuma residents believe none of the locals were selected and have rejected the inclusion of outsiders whose names appear on the list as Chavuma teachers.
