Wife Reports Hubby to Victim Support Unit Over “Too Much Soya Chunks at Home”

A Lusaka man has appeared before the Chelstone Local Court after his wife reported him to the Victim Support Unit (VSU) for allegedly keeping her hungry. According to court records, the only relish available in the house was beans and soya chunks — prompting the complaint.
The case involves Hellen Tembo, 26, of Ng’ombe Compound, who is seeking a divorce from her husband Stanley Lungu, 31, of Bauleni Compound. Hellen told Magistrate Elizabeth Zulu that their marriage, which began in 2023, collapsed within a year. She accused her husband of neglect, infidelity and physical abuse, including nights away from home and returning with his private parts shaved.
“I’m 26, I stay in Ng’ombe Compound. I do business plaiting hair in a salon…” Hellen said in court.
Hellen says that the final straw was the state of their household’s food: the only relish available being beans and soya chunks. Feeling neglected and degraded, she reported her husband to the VSU under the claim of being kept hungry.
